Many animal programs carry the mislabeled claim of "sanctuary" while offering something vastly different - a life in which animals are deprived of natural behaviors and a natural environment, and in which they are exploited for human use. The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) was formed in 2007 by nationally and globally recognized leaders in the animal protection field for the sole purpose of strengthening, supporting, and promoting the work of true animal sanctuaries worldwide.For GFAS, a sanctuary is a facility providing temporary or permanent safe haven to animals in need while meeting the principles of true sanctuaries. These principles include no commercial trade of animals, no captive breeding unless part of a bona fide breeding for release program, no invasive research, and no direct contact between wildlife and the public.GFAS' primary work is our accreditation program. Today there are nearly 200 GFAS certified sanctuaries on five continents. These include sanctuaries that provide lifetime care to animals, rescue organizations that seek permanent adoptive homes for species such as equines, and rehabilitation centers that care for and prepare animals for a release back to the wild.

Pasado's Safe Haven is a non-profit animal rescue and sanctuary founded in 1997 in honor of Pasado, a beloved donkey who was tortured to death by three teenage boys in Bellevue, WA. Our mission is to end animal cruelty and create a more compassionate world.We investigate animal cruelty crimes and provide sanctuary and rehabilitation to animals who have suffered from abuse and neglect. And it doesn't end there. We also advocate for better laws to protect animals, help thousands of animals every year through our Pet Services program, and work to educate the public about how they can help end animal suffering.

Exploration Place, The Sedgwick County Science and Discovery Center is located in downtown Wichita in the Museums on the River district. Exploration Place offers:- STEM-based (science, technology, engineering & mathematics) exhibits, dome theater films, programs and outreach.- 100,000 square feet and 11 hands-on exhibits that focus on aviation, Kansas, medieval life in a three-story castle, architecture, health, imaginative spaces for toddlers, and special traveling exhibitions.- the largest dome screen in Kansas, the Digital Dome Theater and Planetarium with a massive 60-foot tall, 360-degree screen. - an outdoor Exploration Park, picnic grove and 18-hole MiniGolf putting course.- fun and educational programs including School's Out Edventures, Homeschool Edventures, Summer Camps, Children's Spanish Classes, Little Explorers Preschool Playgroup, Live Science Shows and Boy and Girl Scout programs.
