My sister and I have our birthdays exactly a week apart, we would have birthday season when we would make hats, decorations, pass the parcel and most importantly plan the cake! Like many children growing up in the 70's & 80's in Australia we would spend hours pouring over the Australian Women's Weekly Birthday Cake Book. We would study with intent every page. We would work out which cake had the most lollies, which cake was the biggest, which fitted our current interests, personality or vision for our next birthday. There were some that were vetoed by our mother whose task it was to bring these dreams to life. The book ignited our imagination, it encouraged us to plan and made our birthdays last so much longer than just one day, as much joy came from the planning, dreaming and anticipation. This is what inspired our vision for The Party Cupboard. We want it to bring hours of entertainment as children pour through the Picture Gallery and anticipate what their next birthday might be like. We also want to make it easier for those who are tasked with bringing these plans to life.
