Gaia Values is a not-for profit foundation launched in March 2011. Gaia, according to Greek mythology, means Mother Earth. As the name indicates, the Foundation works for the sustainable management of the world's natural capital such as ecosystem services. Ecosystem services are the goods and benefits derived from nature and that supports human wellbeing including industrial activities and development goals. Gaia Values offers independent advice, analysis, recommendations and tools for players in the business sector including financial institutions, public authorities and households to make better decisions with regard to the Earth's ecological values. In particular, Gaia Values looks at how global consumption and production patterns affects the abundance as well as distribution of natural capital with implications for sustainable and fair economic growth and development. In its first year, Gaia Values Foundation will focus mostly on building liquidity through project financing and donations to fund its work.
