Volunteer organization charged with the development of the Veterans Memorial Parkway - a 15-mile stretch of US 231 through the heart of Lake County, IN from St. John, and just into Porter County in Hebron, IN. The Parkway was thus named by an act of the Indiana General Assembly in 1994; inspired by the Lake County Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Stoney Run Park - the very first Vietnam memorial dedicated in the United States (1970). CuIn 2003, the Friends dedicated the Lake County Korean Veterans Memorial near Leroy, IN, and have leased property in Crown Point for the development of the Lake County World Wars I & II Veterans Memorial. This project is set to commence in the spring of 2018. Another project of note include the development of a nine-mile bike/hike and equestrian trail alongside the road way within an abandoned rail corridor.
