Save the Phoenix Cinema is a campaign run by Ionad Phoenix CLG to secure the future of the Phoenix Cinema in Dingle, Co Kerry as a cinema and community space. Ionad Phoenix CLG is a collective of residents on the Dingle Peninsula mandated by a large group to fundraise and purchase our beloved cinema for the community. Dingle although famous for its art, literature, music and language, has no arts centre, no public exhibition space, no youth friendly venue and currently no cinema. The cinema was one of a handful of family friendly unlicenced venues on the Dingle Peninsula. The cinema was an integral part of Dingle International Film Festival, Féile na Bealtaine, Animation Dingle and many other events. This is a huge loss, it was our Cinema Paradiso. The Sunday matinee was an introduction to the magical world of cinema for local children and visitors, a family space. We have huge support from the local community, public figures and local politians.Historically in private ownership, we feel it is time for West Kerry to take responsibility for our community cinema and arts space.
